Changing demands made of distribution logistics workers |
The Efficiency Research Institute (FIR) and the Institute for Work Sciences of the Aachen Rhenish-Westfalian Technical College are coming up with an idea for enhancing the efficiency of courier, express and parcel services. This is a technological field that adisoft has completely covered while focusing its energies on mobile data communication and integrating mobile data services in logistics. ParcelMan was launched on October 1, 2001 with the intention of effecting higher-value logistics scenarios for courier, express and parcel services. The idea is to combine technical feasibility with the targeted goals while focusing on customer and worker needs.

The electronic business transactions are making new demands of the distribution of goods which confronts companies on the courier, express and parcel service market with a series of logistical, organisational and technical problems.
For instance, today customers expect the transportation process to be under constant control in real-time ensuring that goods are distributed in the shortest period of time. This means that established processes are abandoned in favour of flexible and customer-determined processes. What this development means to the on-site worker, better known as the ParcelMan, is greater decision-making responsibilities without adding to workloads.
This project is aimed at boosting logistics performance (added value services) including the downstream control processes. From a technological point of view, the focus is on providing the necessary technical infrastructure and technology applications planning. You can find more information under:
